Sri Lanka Housewives’ Association (Matale Branch) 2018: Advanced Royal Icing Showpiece
Sri Lanka Housewives’ Association | Matale Branch Exhibition 2018
This portfolio entry documents a high-end classical sugarcraft showpiece designed and presented for the Sri Lanka Housewives’ Association (Matale Branch) Exhibition in 2018. Built around traditional European cake decorating techniques, the project serves as a technical masterclass in high-precision royal icing extension work and structural multi-tier symmetry.
Advanced Technical Disciplines & Craftsmanship
Classical Lambeth Over-Piping & Stringwork: The architectural focus of the installation centers on intricate, multi-layered royal icing drop-string work. Delicate, hanging lace skirts wrap seamlessly around each ivory fondant tier, showcasing precision spacing and excellent consistency under traditional exhibition standards.
Intricate White Sugar Extension Lace: Every tier is framed with fine embroidery scrollwork and micro-piped royal icing borders, forming an elegant scalloped pattern that highlights clean execution and mastery over fine-line nozzle control.
Vibrant Botanical Rose Borders: Breaking the clean ivory tones are dense, hand-sculpted crimson sugar roses. These botanical clusters are interwoven with delicate white filler blossoms, realistic green foliage, and soft yellow berries to define the structural separation between the tiers.
Ornate Structural Topper: The installation is crowned with a highly complex, symmetrical open-work sugar sculpture. This centerpiece utilizes advanced piece-by-piece royal icing construction methods to form a delicate, cage-like structure that completes the grand silhouette on a polished mirror presentation base.
