FHAM 2024: Award-Winning "The Forgotten Step" Sugar Art Showcase

FHAM 2024 | "The Forgotten Step" Culinary Art Competition

This entry features the award-winning, hyper-realistic sugar art piece titled "The Forgotten Step", presented at the Food & Hospitality Asia Maldives (FHAM) 2024 International Culinary Challenge. The sculpture explores the theme of nature reclaiming man-made items, utilizing master-level sugar manipulation techniques to construct an organic, narrative-driven display piece.

Advanced Technical Disciplines & Artistry

  • Hyper-Realistic Pastry Sculpting: The core structure features a highly detailed, weathered combat boot sculpted entirely from edible mediums. It showcases intricate leather-grain texturing, realistic eyelets, and hand-threaded sugar laces wrapped in velvet moss textures.

  • Botanical Sugar Crafting: Spilling from the boot is a meticulously crafted bouquet of lifelike sugar flowers, including textured peonies, multi-toned dahlias, delicate filler blossoms, detailed begonias, and clusters of wild forest berries.

  • Organic Base texturing: The display is grounded on an earthen-style cake board built with realistic mossy overgrowths, miniature sugar mushrooms, wild ferns, and decaying tree bark textures.

  • International Recognition: The collection documents the completed installation alongside its descriptive competition brief and captures the official certificate and medal presentation on the main stage at the global challenge.
